There is no legal temperature limit for driving, but you should take extra precautions above 100°F. Monitor your engine temperature gauge closely, check tires more frequently (blowout risk spikes on hot pavement), and stay hydrated. If your AC fails in extreme heat, find a service center immediately — heat stroke is a real risk in a cab without cooling.
Hot pavement heats tire rubber, increasing internal pressure and accelerating tread separation. Underinflated tires generate even more heat through sidewall flex. Old tires (6+ years) and tires with low tread or sidewall damage are most vulnerable. The peak blowout window is midday to late afternoon when pavement temperatures can exceed 150°F.
Pre-cool reefer trailers before loading. For dry vans, load during cooler morning hours if possible. Use a thermal blanket or insulated pallet covers for sensitive items. Park in shade when available. Monitor reefer temperature alarms closely. Some shippers will reject loads if internal temperature exceeds their threshold.
