Our Review

Omnitracs, now part of Solera, is one of the original fleet telematics providers with over 35 years in the transportation technology space. Their platform serves some of the largest fleets in North America. Strong on capability and reliability, but the enterprise pricing and complexity are not suited for smaller operations.

Pros

  • One of the most established fleet technology providers (since 1988)
  • Proven at scale with major carrier deployments
  • Comprehensive platform covering ELD, routing, safety, and compliance
  • Strong predictive analytics and business intelligence tools
  • Reliable hardware with decades of refinement

Cons

  • Enterprise pricing is prohibitive for small carriers
  • User interface feels dated compared to Samsara and Motive
  • Solera acquisition creates uncertainty about product roadmap
  • Implementation is complex and time-consuming

Compliance

  • FMCSA ELD mandate compliant (registered)
  • DVIR with configurable inspection workflows
  • HOS compliance for US and Canada
  • Automatic duty status changes
  • DOT inspection mode and data transfer
  • CSA score monitoring
  • Hours of Service optimization tools

Our Verdict

Omnitracs is a proven enterprise platform for large carriers who need industrial-strength fleet management. Their track record with major fleets is unmatched. However, the dated interface, enterprise pricing, and recent acquisition by Solera create some uncertainty. Large fleets should evaluate Omnitracs alongside Trimble and Samsara Enterprise to determine the best fit. Small carriers should look elsewhere entirely.
